Pain Relief
Rachel is able to design specific and individualized rehabilitative and strengthening programs to meet your needs. The goal is to achieve optimal physical performance and pain-free living.
Approximately 1 in 5 Americans suffer from some sort of chronic pain. Pain may be caused by inflammation or dysfunctional nerves which may be the result of a car accident injury or other type of trauma. Chronic pain can occur in almost any part of your body.
If you’re experiencing tight muscles or pain from any of the following, Rachel is skilled at identifying problems before they lead to more serious conditions. She will guide you through the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) which identifies the exact cause of pain or muscle tightness that is preventing you from moving properly.
Sciatica
Sciatica pain occurs when pain in the lower back radiates down either one or both of a persons’ legs. It is caused by a problem with the sciatic nerve which is a large nerve that runs from the lower back and down the back of each leg. The result is a constant and debilitating condition or an occasional mild exacerbation that can be felt in the hips, buttocks, and legs.
At Press on Performance, Rachel is skilled at identifying your problem and making it her mission to remedy the underlying condition. Proper diagnosis of the cause of sciatica is an essential part of relieving the pain.
The treatment of the pain is dependent on its cause and will likely include a number of different types of therapies to achieve maximum results.
Frozen Shoulder
Thousands of St. Louis residents feel the effects of a frozen shoulder. It is often the result of trauma such as being involved in a car accident or work-related incident.
Typically, the loss of range of motion in a persons’ shoulder is the first indication of a frozen shoulder. Treatment for a frozen shoulder is two-fold. First, pain is the first priority in order to restore your mobilization. Second, treating the source is also important in order to prevent a recurrence.
Neck Pain
Neck pain is a common complaint. Many people often experience neck pain at some point in their life. In most cases, neck pain isn’t a serious condition and it can be relieved with in a few days with therapy. However, in other cases, neck pain can indicate a more serious problem and can cause distress for the entire body.
Because the neck contains pain-sensitive nerves, it can be responsible for intense headaches, shoulder pain, back pain and even muscle spasms. If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, Rachel can create a personalized corrective exercise program to help target your weakest muscles, reduce your pain, and improve your muscle length.
Cervical Radiculopathy
Cervical radiculopathy, commonly called a pinched nerve, is caused by nerve compression in the upper neck which often radiates pain down the shoulders and arms. Heavy lifting at work or the use of vibrating equipment can cause cervical radiculopathy. The likelihood of developing this type of pain increases with age and especially in older people who are less flexible.
Relieving this pain is done by utilizing a number of techniques. Rachel offers one-on-one trigger point release/stretching sessions. Trigger point release is a specific type of massage that helps to reduce pain and muscle tightness.
Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder. Symptoms include persistent pain or a tender muscle knot. It may develop as a result of muscle overuse or after repeated injury.
There are many forms of therapy that can be used to relieve this pain. Trigger point therapy and exercise therapy are two such therapies. Rachel will help you develop a therapy regimen that relieves the chronic pain it causes so that you can resume a normal lifestyle.
Back Pain
Back pain be in the lower, mid, or upper region and there are many different causes to consider. A car or work-related accident is as common a reason as is a sport injury to the back.
Pain in the back is easy to diagnose, but finding the cause of it is essential in being able to treat it effectively. Rachel is the only practitioner in the state of Missouri to be certified in the SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment) Level 1 and Level 2. She works with each client to improve identified muscle imbalances by using a combination of manual therapy techniques, trigger point release, stretching, accessory joint play, and neurological re-programming through specific corrective exercises to improve the dysfunctional and painful movement patterns.
Knee Pain
Many people suffer from knee pain often the result of a work-related injury, sports injury, or car accident. The knee is a complex joint that relies on tendons, cartilage, muscles, and ligaments in order to work properly. If one or more of these structures are damaged, it can cause serious pain and the loss of the ability to walk properly.
If you have experienced a knee injury, Rachel is able to design specific and individualized rehabilitative and strengthening programs to meet your needs. The goal is to achieve optimal physical performance and pain-free living.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain is discomfort of the shoulder which can include the joint itself or the tendons, muscles, and ligaments that support the joint. A common cause of shoulder pain is rotator cuff tendinitis that is caused by swollen tendons. Car accidents, sports injuries, and work-related incidents can all cause injuries to the shoulder.
